jazz syndicate history

The Jazz syndicate were formed circa 1983, they were a group of DJ's from Walthamstow in East London. The originals were Aja, Stevie D and DJamin and were later joined by Darren Horn and much later Marky Mark. After spending much of their time at the Essex/London soul events such as Caister Soul weekenders, lacy Lady and the renowned Knebworth National soul Alldayer. They bought their first set of decks and started trawling for work in the local pubs of Walthamstow and soon made the Rose and Crown a home for bringing the latest underground Soul to the less fortunates ears.

The Jazz Syndicate entertained the masses for about 12 years playing at various pubs and clubs until one day they decided they had done their bit and decided to call it a day apart from doing the odd favour for friends parties and weddings!

Around 2002 with the internet booming and the opening of many online soul radio stations Marky discovered some freebie software that could run a online radio station and after a little play found it possible to broadcast a small music stream, Marky spoke to the originals and they  had all come out of retirement and Jazz Syndicate Radio was born!

JSR started with a small audience of friends who listened whilst chatting online! The first website was built in 2003 and after the closure of Solar radios forum a partnership was formed between Marky Mark and Carl Webster formerly of Solar Radio launched Soul Music Radio forum and JSR went public!

The first JSR line up was Aja, Marky Mark, C.F.M, Darren Horn and D Jamin, later on the first non JS member joined " THE REP " followed by Paul C, DJ Dimsa and Hamlet and many more were soon to follow. JSR was soon well established amongst the top Jazz and soul stations in the UK and in 2006 was nominated for a US " Best radio station " award . The station which was started for a bit of fun and a hobby to all that was involved but unfortunately out grew itself and Marky was finding it hard to balance the books and after a few legal problems appeared the decision was made to cease broadcasting in March 2008...
To all those were a part of JSR you will always remain a part of the JSR family!
